Tipi and Yurt Glamping

Tipi and Yurt Glamping

Historically tipis or teepees were associated with the Plains Indians of North America and the word tipi translates to “used to live in” in the Sioux language. They were made of animal skin stretched over wooden poles and had a smoke flap at the top to release the smoke from cooking inside the tent. Today’s glamping teepee retains the conical shape but the fabric used is usually canvas and the flap is generally closed.

Luxury tipi Glamping is a popular form of glamping all over the world but especially in North America and the UK. If you live in Canada or the United States chances are you’ll find a long list of places when you google “teepee camping near me.”

Glamping tipi tents are spacious and comfortable and you’ll also find lots of teepee camping resorts with lots of amenities and activities for the whole family.

What is a yurt? A yurt is like a tent in that it’s made to be collapsible and portable and is formed from durable fabric stretched over a pole structure. However, unlike most tents a yurt is round, like the shape of a hut, with a small dome at the top. Traditionally yurts were used by nomadic people like the Mongolians.

Today, glamping yurts are popular for luxury camping and modern yurts are often built on a platform as a permanent structure. Heavy duty materials such as canvas, the addition of floors and sometimes even insulation make yurt camping possible year round even in colder climates.

Luxury camping yurts can be found all over the world and are especially popular in the Americas, Europe and Australia. If you’ve ever wondered: “are there glamping yurts near me?” the answer is probably yes.
